Chew Cafe:
A Hybrid Academic Enrichment Program Through Culinary

This program serves children ages 7–12 and their families in Clayton County, Georgia. The program equips children with essential life and leadership skills through hands-on cooking experiences. Through a hybrid model of take-home culinary kits plus in-person sessions, participants engage in structured activities that build confidence, teamwork, decision-making, and responsibility. Sessions integrate nutrition education, budgeting, and real-world problem-solving while encouraging youth to take ownership of their health and food choices.

A core element of Chew Café is intergenerational mentorship, where youth learn alongside parents and community mentors, fostering positive relationships and social development. The program also introduces early entrepreneurship by exposing participants to concepts such as meal planning, cost analysis, and small-scale food-based business ideas. By combining practical skill-building with leadership development, Chew Café empowers youth to become informed, capable, and health-conscious individuals who can positively influence their families and communities.
